Liberals typically don’t mind passing rules and laws that apply to ordinary Americans, but not the elites.
Remember when a Democrat-controlled Congress passed Obamacare, but exempted congressmen and senators from having to use Obamacare?
It seems we’re in a similar situation now with the stay at home orders most Americans are living under.
Chicago’s Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, was recently asked about photos circulating of her showing her getting a haircut from her stylist while residents of the city must refrain from seeing their own stylists. When confronted, Lightfoot pressed that she’s the “face” of the city and takes her “personal hygiene” very seriously.
Is she implying that the rest of Chicago, or America for that matter, doesn’t take personal hygiene seriously because they are abiding by the stay at home orders?
The Chicago Tribune reports on Lightfoot’s defense of herself:
Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended getting a haircut over the weekend even though barbers and stylists were shut down under the state’s stay-at-home order, saying she’s the face of the city and the woman who cut her hair wore a mask.
Asked about photos on social media showing her with a stylist, Lightfoot acknowledged getting a haircut, then said the public cares more about other issues.
“I think what really people want to talk about is, we’re talking about people dying here. We’re talking about significant health disparities. I think that’s what people care most about,” Lightfoot said.
In response to a follow-up question, she said, “The woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on so we are, I am practicing what I’m preaching.”
A reporter asked the mayor about one of her “stay home, save lives” public service announcements where Lightfoot admonishes an off-screen person by saying, “Getting your roots done is not essential.”
Asked about that, a visibly annoyed Lightfoot said, “I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye.
“I’m a person who, I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut,” Lightfoot said. “I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?”
Many weren’t happy with Lightfoot’s answer and pointed out her blatant hypocrisy. Take a look at some of the responses to Lightfoot:
It's interesting to note that the Governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, hasn't received a haircut since the stay at home order was enacted. He even joked, when asked about Mayor Lightfoot's haircut, that he would be turning into a "hippie" at some point.
