New York City Extends Toddler Mask Mandate

Published

New York City has extended its immoral, abusive mask mandate for toddlers in daycares and public pre-K school programs.

Still, the only NYC residents with a mask mandate are children between the ages of two and four.

Eric Adams must be extremely proud being the most abusive mayor in the world.

City officials cited an “upward trajectory” in COVID cases, Mayor Eric Adams confirmed in a statement Friday.

“As I have said, I want to remove masks and see our babies’ faces, but we have to do it when the science says it is safe to do so,” Adams said. “As cases have continued to rise, we are prepared, not panicked, so now is not the time to remove masks for our youngest New Yorkers.”

“My team of health experts and I will continue to evaluate the data, day after day, and we will communicate with New Yorkers clearly and frequently with additional updates,” he added.

New Yorkers let Mayor Adams know how they feel about the reprehensible policy:

NBC New York reported:

Earlier Friday, Adams had said in a radio interview he hoped to lift the order “within a week” but noted it would depend on his health team’s recommendations around the contagious omicron subvariant fueling a fresh uptick in cases citywide.

The decision could stoke controversy anew among parents who have pressed Adams to change the rule given city health department data that lists the COVID alert level as “low,” which is the lowest tier. The mayor, though, hasn’t been moved.

For each of those parents, he says there’s another on the other side of the aisle. He says he’ll peel back the next layer as soon as his team gives the OK.

New York Daily News added this op-ed that summarize Adams’ lunacy:

New York City is hard at work competing for the title of having the cruelest, dumbest and most ineffective COVID-19 policy in the world. The city is fighting in the courts to protect their “only toddlers” mask mandate. This policy essentially means that while indoor mask mandates have been dropped for all other ages and groups, children between the ages of 2 to 4 will continue to be required to wear face coverings. Mayor Adams has said he wants to lift it soon, but he is simultaneously using the city’s Law Department to try to prolong the rule.

The fact that a politically savvy mayor has doubled down on this regulation is baffling.

Consider the facts. New York City’s policy goes beyond the advice of the World Health Organization and UNICEF, which is not to mask kids under the age of 6 years old. There is no well-done medical evidence (a cluster randomized trial) that supports the idea that masking kids between the ages of 2 to 4 improves their wellbeing or slows the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

The best study we have comes from Spain. There, due to a national policy, 6-year-olds masked, but 5 and under did not. The authors examined the rate of spread at each age from 3 to 11 years old. As kids got older, the risk of viral spread grew. If mask mandates on children at this age worked, we would expect a serious decline in spread from age 5 to 6. That didn’t happen — suggesting that masking children has at best a negligible effect.

Parents must (finally) take action into their hands and remove the masks from their children.

Neither Eric Adams nor the NYC Department of Health has any authority to muzzle innocent toddlers.

All eyes are on parents to stop complying with this disgusting mandate.
